What Is PhotoBioModulation?

PHOTOBIOMODULATION describes how light in the right dose and wavelength seems to modulate cellular function to the benefit of the user. The cellular benefits cascade down into the tissues, organs and systems bvenefitting the entire body. Traditionally Red/Near Infrared wavelengths in localized therapies have been studied with general results suggesting that PBM accomplishes several objectives illustrated below without side effects:

(1) Helps to reduce pain (FDA approved for the relief of minor aches and pains).

(2) Improves mitochondrial function and cellular energy

(3) Improves circulation by relaxing arterial walls and increasing development of new arteries (angiogenesis).

(4) Reduces inflammation

There are over 4000 studies and 500 RCT’s to date on red and near infrared photobiomodulation, or low level light therapy. This treatment is now used by professional athletes to reduce pain, speed recovery and improve performance. Doctors are beginning to incorporate PBM into their practice as a non pharamacological tool to improve cellular health and over all wellness. Spas use PBM to improve collagen and elastin and thus reduce fine lines and wrinkles.

Why Green?

Specifically green seems to be absorbed into the hemoglobin and oxyhemoglobin and some diabetic sufferers have experienced lowered blood sugar, reduced insulin requirements and reduced nerve pain.

WHAT WE HAVE EXPERIENCED AND WISH TO TEST Some doctors have taken their patients off of insulin completely.

One system owner reported that her diabetic clients had cut their insulin levels by 50% across the board. The first client testimonial from Charles Smith in Cincinnati using a green/NIR system reported that his 82 year old client with blood sugar levels in the high 300’s reduced his blood sugar to 129 in the first week (2 x 20 mintue sessions) and 109 in the second week (4 total 20 min sessions). His physician took him off of insulin completely.

In addition it is possible that pain from diabetic neuropathy will be reduced with improvement in function. Several clients have reported dramatic reductions in diabetic nerve pain within a few sessions. One client ran 8 sessions of Red/NIR for neuropathy which he reported feeling tingling. On the ninth session he ran green and near infrared. The client reported being able to tell the difference between a wood floor and carpet for the first time in years.

Photobiomodulation is approved by the FDA for it’s pain relief benefits. Some systems are approved for fine lines and winkles, some for wreight loss, some for hair growth, some for macular degeneration, some for acne.

First healing the cell, light seems to improve the health of the entire body.

First Clinical Trials on a Green / Near Infrared Whole Body Chamber

Dr. Sheryl Monaughan in Los Angeles, CA will be running clinical trials using the new ATP full body photobiomodulation therapy bed. This is a non invasive modality free of drugs and side effects. No personal identifiers (name or medical records) will be recorded for participants. A brief introduction and qualifying interview is required to walk each patient through the study parameters.

TREATMENT SESSIONS The treatment sessions last 15 minutes. Each session involves disrobing to a level of comfort and laying down in what looks like a tanning bed. Generally people experience pain reduction after the first few sessions. The only intervention is resting on the chamber to allow the light to be absorbed into the cells. There is no pain, no drugs and minimal side effects. Some people may experience a heavy detoxification but most will feel energized after each session.

DURATION 90 Days of testing

FREQUENCY 2 - 15 minute sessions per week for 12 weeks beginning July 15 2019 and running through October 15 2019

ENROLLMENT INTERVIEW A brief interview is required to explain the sessions

FEE A small fee to help cover administrative expenses for the 90 days of treatment is required.

A psychologist, Dr Monaughan’s study will focus on how the pain releiveing benefits of PBM on how Green and Near Infrared photobiomodulation affect blood sugar and Neuropathy in Type I and Type II diabetics.
